The University Club of San Francisco is one of the city’s hidden gems for couples planning an elegant wedding. As a San Francisco wedding photographer, I love venues that have timeless architecture, incredible natural light, and a great guest experience. A University Club of San Francisco wedding delivers all of that while placing you in one of the city’s most iconic neighborhoods.
Rebecca and Gabe’s wedding perfectly showcased everything this venue has to offer. Their celebration blended historic interiors with modern design. Their celebration included textured florals in shades of green, burgundy, and burnt orange, a candlelit reception overlooking the city skyline, and thoughtful moments that made every guest feel included. It was the perfect example of how this venue can feel both grand and welcoming.

Why I Love Photographing a University Club of San Francisco Wedding
From a photographer’s perspective, this venue has so much to offer. The historic architecture is timeless and the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the San Francisco skyline brings in beautiful natural light. I love how the ballroom transforms into an entirely different atmosphere at night, too.
Another reason I love photographing here is how seamlessly the day flows. Couples can host their ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing all within the same building. It’s great to not have to worry about transportation or weather. Rebecca and Gabe’s wedding was a perfect example of this. Their reception felt incredibly intimate as guests enjoyed dinner by candlelight before the dance floor filled later in the evening.
The last thing I especially love about a University Club of San Francisco wedding is how convenient it is for out-of-town guests. Located in Nob Hill, the venue is surrounded by hotels, public transportation, and many of San Francisco’s most recognizable landmarks. For couples with family traveling from across the country, the venue also offers 22 boutique guest rooms within the historic clubhouse itself. It’s a wonderful option for close family members or the wedding party and allows everyone to spend even more time together throughout the weekend.

What Makes the University Club of San Francisco Special
Founded in 1890, the University Club of San Francisco has long been one of the city’s most special gathering places. When it comes to weddings, it combines historic charm with amazing hospitality.
One feature that really stands out is that the venue hosts only one wedding per day. Couples never have to share the property with another event, which creates a much more personal experience for everyone involved.
The venue also includes many of the essentials in its rental package, including mahogany Chiavari chairs, tables, white linens, flatware, glassware, votive candles, professional staffing, and a complimentary tasting before the wedding. Weekend weddings also include a getting ready suite for the evening.
The in-house culinary team is another highlight. The venue is known for exceptional food and service. They create customized menus while handling all food and beverage on-site, making the planning process much simpler.

Ceremony & Reception Spaces at the University Club of San Francisco
One of the biggest advantages of this venue is how naturally each event space flows into the next.
The Lounge
The Lounge offers an elegant setting for wedding ceremonies, surrounded by classic architecture and timeless details. Since everything takes place indoors, couples never have to worry about weather affecting their plans.

The Library
Rebecca and Gabe hosted cocktail hour in the Library, and it couldn’t have been a more fitting space. Rich wood shelving and historic character created a warm atmosphere where guests could mingle before dinner. It feels intimate while still offering plenty of room to move throughout the space.

The Ballroom
The Ballroom is where the venue truly shines. When you enter, you’ll be immediately drawn to the floor-to-ceiling windows that frame views of the San Francisco skyline. As daylight fades into evening, the combination of city lights and candlelight creates an incredibly romantic atmosphere.
