More couples are choosing to celebrate with an entire wedding weekend instead of a single day. This is especially true when guests are traveling from out of town. As a California wedding photographer, I love documenting these celebrations. They give everyone more time to slow down, connect, and actually enjoy being together.
Yeoshina and Brent’s celebration on the Northern California coast was a perfect example. Their family and friends gathered for multiple events. It all began with a traditional Nelengu ceremony and welcome dinner at Mendocino Stone Ranch. Then, they celebrated with an oceanfront Hindu wedding ceremony at Sea Ranch Lodge the following day. Throughout the weekend, they blended meaningful Hindu traditions with a modern celebration that felt completely their own.
Why Wedding Weekend Photography Is Becoming More Popular
One of my favorite things about destination weddings is that they naturally create more opportunities for everyone to spend time together. Instead of guests flying in for a ceremony and leaving the next morning, many couples are planning welcome dinners, cultural celebrations, farewell brunches, and other gatherings that turn the wedding into an entire weekend experience.
Those events often end up being some of the most memorable parts of the celebration. They’re more relaxed, conversations last longer, and guests have time to truly connect before the wedding day arrives.

The Welcome Dinner at Mendocino Stone Ranch
The weekend began at Mendocino Stone Ranch. Yeoshina and Brent had a Nelengu ceremony followed by a welcome dinner beneath a beautiful outdoor tent. Friends and family had time to mingle, catch up, and enjoy the evening together before the pace of the wedding day began.
One of the things I enjoy most about photographing welcome events is how different they feel from the wedding itself. There’s no timeline to rush through, guests are settling into the weekend, and everyone has a chance to simply enjoy being together.
For couples hosting a destination wedding, a welcome dinner like this also gives guests an opportunity to meet before the ceremony. By the following day, everyone already feels connected.
A Traditional Hindu Wedding at Sea Ranch Lodge
The next day, everyone gathered at Sea Ranch Lodge for Yeoshina and Brent’s wedding ceremony overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The lawn provided an incredible backdrop for their traditional Hindu ceremony. The ocean stretched behind them and the natural landscape surrounded the ceremony space.
One of my favorite parts of the day was seeing how seamlessly they blended tradition with a modern celebration. They honored meaningful cultural customs throughout the ceremony while creating a wedding that reflected who they are as a couple today.
Later in the evening, Yeoshina changed into a second outfit for the reception. She brought a completely different look to the celebration while keeping the energy high as everyone gathered indoors for dinner and dancing.
It’s one of the things I appreciate most about Sea Ranch Lodge. Couples can enjoy an outdoor ceremony with dramatic coastal views. Then, they can move inside for an elegant reception, all without asking guests to travel between venues.
